When is the best time to visit the Maldives

The Maldives is sunny and warm all year round. Air temperatures vary between 28 and 32 degrees Celsius, and water temperatures between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius. The weather is best and driest from November to April,

​What is the weather like in the Maldives and what are the monsoons like?

The climate in the Maldives is characterized by two seasons: rainy and dry. The rainy season usually lasts from mid-May to November, and the dry season from January to March. The months of December and April are considered transitional periods.

​Can I travel to Maldives during the rainy season?

Of course! The rainy season in the Maldives does not mean that it rains all the time. Storms in the rainy season usually last 2 to 3 hours, so it doesn't rain all day. Statistically speaking, the most rain falls in the months of May and July. Nevertheless, during the rainy season, it can happen that due to storms in the Bay of Bengal, it rains intermittently for several days. What documentation do I need before entering and leaving the Maldives?

You do not need a PCR test to enter the Maldives, you only need to fill out the online form 96 hours before entering and leaving the country, which you can find at the link: https://travel.immigration.gov.mv/

​​Do you also organize flight tickets and which airports can I fly from?

Yes, we also organize plane tickets, but if you want, you can also buy them yourself. You can fly to the Maldives from any nearby airport of your home country.

What language do they speak in the Maldives?

The official language in the Maldives is Dhivehi, but most people speak English, especially those involved in tourism.

​Do I need a passport to travel to the Maldives?

Yes, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of travel.

What are bikini beaches in the Maldives? What can I wear during the trip?

Bikini beaches are the most beautiful beaches on the island, you can swim there in a swimsuit, as these beaches are intended for tourists. Walking around the village in a bathing suit is prohibited. You can wear the same summer clothes as we do (shoulders and knees can be seen).

Can I pay with euros in Maldives? Which currencies do they accept?

In Maldives they do accept euro, but they like american dollars more, we reccomend, that you pay with USD. Dollars should't be damaged or crumpled. In stores an restaurants they don't accept bills for 1 USD and 5 USD. We reccomend, that you bring 10. 20. 50 and 100 USD bills with you (100 USD bills have to be made after the year of 2009).

How do I get to the island where I have accommodation?

A representative of our team will meet you at the airport and escort you to the transport that will take you to the island.

What forms of transportation are available on the island?

The islands are small, so it's best to walk, but you can rent a bike for 5-10 USD per day. In the Maldives, they drive on the left.

Where can I buy a SIM card in the Maldives?

You can buy a SIM card at the airport on the day of arrival. At the exit of the terminal, there are two shops “OOREDOO” and “DHIRAAGU” where you can buy a SIM card.

Do I need a visa to travel to the Maldives?

You do not need a visa in advance to enter the Maldives. All visitors to the Maldives receive a visa upon arrival in the Maldives in the form of a stamp on their passport. But you need a return ticket and a "Booking voucher", which we send you before your trip.

Are the Maldives a family-friendly destination?

Yes, it is available in all guesthouses, but the signal is not very good. It is enough for sending messages and making video calls.

Is there a hospital/medical center on the island?

On each island there is a medical center with a doctor and nurses and a pharmacy. In case of emergency, it is necessary to hire a boat to take you to the island of Male', where the main hospital is located.

Male' is very easy to visit from the airport. We will also send you all the information on how to visit Male'. Like other islands, Male' is safe to visit, you just need to watch your belongings and be careful when crossing the road.

​​How many islands and inhabitants are there in the Maldives?

The Maldives consists of around 1200 islands and has a population of 500,000, including 300,000 locals and 200,000 foreigners who work in the Maldives.

​​What types of sockets do they use in the Maldives?

In the Maldives they use three pin sockets, the same as in the UK. Guesthouses have universal sockets where you can use any plug, so you don't need an adapter.

​​Do I need health insurance to travel to the Maldives?

We strongly recommend that you arrange medical insurance before your trip that also covers your trip to Asia.

What happens if I need emergency medical care?

In this case, our team at the guesthouse will make sure that you get to the hospital and receive appropriate medical care. In case of emergency, it is necessary to rent a boat to take you to the island of Male', where the main hospital is located.

Are there diseases such as yellow fever in the Maldives and is food poisoning possible?

There are no diseases such as yellow fever, malaria and polio in the Maldives. Food poisoning is very rare as Maldivians are very hygienic when preparing food, especially in tourist accommodation. Cases of dengue virus occur during the rainy season, but they are very rare.

​What are the important things to take with me when I travel to the Maldives?

We recommend that you take with you: sunscreen, a hat, a UV protection shirt, slippers, basic medicines, cosmetics, a snack for the plane, an empty bottle that you can fill at the airport, where there are drinking water stations. You also need a passport.

​Is tap water safe to drink in the Maldives?

Tap Water in the Maldives is not drinkable, but it is very cheap in shops where you can buy a liter of bottled water for around 20-30 cents.

​Can I buy alcohol on the local islands?

There is no alcohol on the local islands, but you can visit the resort and buy it there. Bars on ships also come to some islands, where you can also buy alcohol. In general, alcohol is very expensive in the Maldives, with a beer costing somewhere between 5 and 10 USD.

​Do the islands have grocery stores?

All islands have grocery stores where you can buy basic foods, fruit, ice cream, snacks, water... You can pay with US dollars.

You can only withdraw money in the local currency MVR, a fee is charged. Cards accepted: Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express. We recommend that you carry some spare cash as ATMs in the Maldives may run out of cash for a few days.

​Can I get married in the Maldives?

We organize wedding ceremonies on the beach, but this is only a ceremony and the marriage is not officially registered.

​Is it possible to negotiate the price in stores?

You can negotiate the price in tourist shops, for example in the souvenir shop or at the market on the island of Male'. You cannot negotiate the price in grocery stores.

​Am I expected to tip?

Tipping is not common in the Maldives, but it is accepted.

​Can I dive in the Maldives?

Most islands have a diving center, you just need to bring your diving license. They accept PADI and SSI licenses. The price of a dive with all equipment is between 80 and 100 USD.

​What is the food like in the Maldives?

Food in tourist accommodation is not spicy. Maldivian cuisine consists of fish (tuna and other coral reef fish), coconut, flat bread, rice and various curries. The diet can also be adapted for vegetarians.

​Can I combine a trip to a local island with the resort?

We do not organize resort holidays, but we can recommend resorts according to your budget and organize part of the trip to a local island.

​Can I use my SIM card from my home country in the Maldives?

You can, but the prices for calls and messages are very high. Check with your carrier before you travel. If you need a SIM card, you can buy it at the airport after arriving in the Maldives. WI-FI is available in the guesthouse.

​What is the approximate budget when I am in the Maldives?

Meal prices are somewhere between 10-15 USD. The cost of renting bicycles per day is 5-10 USD per person. For 2 excursions you need between 100 and 150 USD per person (children under 12 are half price). For souvenirs 40-50 USD. We suggest that you bring at least 200-300 USD per person as a reserve.
